Each year street painters, also called madonnari, transform the sprawling Mission Plaza here in Santa Barbara for a unique festival. The I Madonnari Italian Street Painting Festival has these artists create large scale images in the plaza with 150 different vibrant colors. The festival originated in Grazie di Curtatone, Italy and is the first Western festival here in the states. The festival will benefit the Children's Creative Project, a local nonprofit arts center and education program.
