This year, the Mission Plaza will be transformed into a colorful work of art during the I Madonnari Italian Street Painting Festival. Originated in Grazie di Curtatone, Italy, this festival of the arts will make its way overseas for the first time in Santa Barbara this May. Hundreds of street painters, or Madonnari, will use pastels on the pavement around the Mission to create over 150 vibrant images. This romantic festival has been a popular event in Italy since its induction and will find its home in Santa Barbara. The I Madonnari Italian Street Painting Festival will take place from May 25th through May 27th for a weekend of festivities. The festival will up from 10:00 to 6:00pm each day with admission free for all attendees. Come show your children the wonders of madonnari Italian street painting and the imagination of local artists. This year's festival will serve the Children's Creative Project, a nonprofit organization that supports the arts education programs of Santa Barbara and serves over 5,000 children in schools. The Santa Barbara Mission can be found on the corner of Los Olivos and Laguna Streets with parking available on the Mission field.
