This seafood proprietor specializes in raw dishes, progressive cocktails, and inventive main courses. Guests can enjoy their dinner on an outdoor patio with gorgeous views of the ocean and sunsets, or in a lofted dining room with wraparound windows offering the same beautiful sights.
The Location
The Boathouse at Hendry's Beach has one of the best locations in the Santa Barbara area. The restaurant is located on the beach with a number of different water sports, sunset sail excursions, and the sandy beach itself just steps away. The restaurant is a perfect place to enjoy a great meal right on the water. We recommend trying to get a table around sunset to experience the beautiful view of the sun as it sinks below the horizon. Since the restaurant is located in such a great walking location, you can always take a stroll after dinner with your sweetheart.
What to Try On the Menu
As one of the many great restaurants in Santa Barbara, the Boathouse at Hendry's Beach offers a variety of food to die for, be we recommend starting with some samples from their extensive bar menu. The ceviche is a must try. Their recipe mixes shrimp with sea bass and calamari in a salsa fresca with lime and cucumber. If your preferences lean more on the cooked side of the house, we recommend the fried calamari; it is the self-proclaimed best calamari in Santa Barbara.
The main course options are plentiful, but upscale and diverse. The Pacific sea bass is spiced rubbed and grilled with black truffle mash potatoes, spinach, and grilled asparagus which is to die for. We also love the Boathouse's cioppino in a spicy tomato sauce with mussels, clams, stone crab, shrimp, and garlic bread.
If you are still hungry and wanting something sweet, we recommend a serving of the bananas foster that is topped off with rum flambeau over a pastry square and McConnell's Vanilla Bean ice cream.
The Boathouse at Hendry's Beach is the stereotypical beach restaurant on the outside, but a gold mine on the inside. The food is perfect and the staff is courteous. We recommend everyone try this Santa Barbara restaurant.
