The California lifestyle involves spending a great deal of time outside. When you have weather as great as ours, how could you not want to be outside basking in it as much as possible? And with Gaviota State Park basically located right next door, it should be no big surprise that a great deal of our outdoor time is spent exploring, playing, and enjoying the beauty of this special place. Hiking, biking, surfing, fishing and scuba diving, Gaviota State Park is the place to visit when you just want to get away from the hustle and bustle of real life!
Gaviota is named after the mighty...seagull? Sometimes, it's the little things that leave the biggest impression, and when soldiers from the Portola Expedition (one of the most important expeditions in California history) killed a seagull while camping here in 1769, the name stuck. Today, Gaviota State Park is Santa Barbara, CA's playground, and many hours have been spent here communing with nature.
The upper areas of the park are still very similar to what early explorers may have discovered, offering a challenging hike to the summit of Gaviota Peak and the opportunity to experience panoramic views of the coast and the Channel Islands. Couples looking to reignite the sparks of their love life find that a romantic picnic on the shores of the beach can do wonders, while athletic adventurers enjoy the chance to swim or surf fish in the waters located just off the pier (The pier is closed for now, due to local construction).
We Californians appreciate the need to preserve what many people take for granted. We want our children and our grandchildren to be able to walk these trails and enjoy these same views long after we are gone. Kashtayit State Marine Conservation Area is a part of Gaviota State Park and a major addition to our long term plan of saving and repopulating fragile ecosystems that are in danger of disappearing forever. You can fish here, with a valid fishing license, but most other marine life must be left to thrive and prosper in this protected spot of the park.
Fishing, hiking, surfing, and swimming can take a lot out of a person, and a night spent in one of our luxury Paradise Retreats vacation homes like& Bluewater Retreat can be just the thing to rejuvenate you after a long day of outdoor activities.
